Purpose
As a result of a review of medical education and training at Mackay Base Hospital conducted by Dr Sheree Conroy in August 2015, the Medical Education Unit (MEU) is seeking a suitably qualified Medical Education Officer (MEO) to lead a needs analysis with a view to developing an organisation-wide approach to a comprehensive and flexible medical education program for Resident Medical Officers (PGY2 & PGY3) that builds on the current Intern program.
In collaboration with the Executive, Clinical Dean, Operations Directors, Clinical Directors, Clinical Supervisors, and RMOs, the MEO will:
• Conduct a review of currently existing education programs for PGY2 & PGY3 doctors in the context of the Australian Curriculum Framework for Junior Doctors (ACFJD) and undertake a gap analysis and a training needs analysis to inform the development of a Prevocational Medical Education Program for Mackay Hospital and Health Service (MHHS).
• Implement quality assurance, evaluation & reporting mechanisms that promote best practice for PGY2 & PGY3 doctors. • Facilitate opportunities for Clinical Supervisors and Registrars to enhance their expertise in Clinical Education using multiple training modalities.
• Provide educational support to PGY2 & PGY3 doctors in key areas (especially doctors on rural placements).
• Increase the number of training opportunities available for PGY2 & PGY3 doctors.
It is anticipated that implementation of this program will prepare MHHS for the anticipated requirements for Queensland Prevocational Medical Accreditation (QPMA) accreditation of PGY2 training in Queensland and also significantly improve Intern and RMO retention rates.
